Replacement plan

What to Do When Your Purdue Global Preceptor Backs Out

A preceptor withdrawal creates three immediate tasks: protect the academic record, notify your program contacts, and define the exact replacement need. The site and affiliation agreement determine whether the new search can stay local to the original organization.

Document the withdrawal and current placement status

Save the provider or site message and record the effective date, reason, scheduled shifts affected, and whether any final activity is possible. If the rotation already began, compare your own shift log with the program's clinical tracking record and identify completed, verified, pending, and planned hours. Keep patient information out of personal notes.

Do not substitute another clinician informally. A new preceptor needs the required review and documentation even when the clinical site stays the same. A new organization may also require a separate affiliation agreement, compliance process, and onboarding. Ask your program which steps apply before completing additional clinical activity.

Give your Clinical Student Manager a concise report

Contact the CSM and any course or program contact named in your current instructions. Include the track, course, preceptor, site, withdrawal date, completed hours, agreement status, remaining schedule, and the site's willingness to retain you. Ask how completed work will be reviewed and what the replacement application requires.

Purdue Global's model makes the student a lead advocate for placement with CSM support. Timely, organized communication helps the university apply its process to the actual situation. A dated summary also reduces confusion when the faculty, clinical team, preceptor, and site have different pieces of the record.

Try the same site before starting a new agreement

Ask the clinical site whether another qualified provider can cover the rotation. An internal replacement may preserve the organization's student process and existing affiliation agreement, although provider approval, the CV, schedule, and required preceptor documents still need attention. This can be faster than moving the student to a new organization.

If the site has no replacement, determine whether a new candidate works at an organization that already has a Purdue Global agreement. Existing agreements commonly require about 2 to 4 weeks for current confirmation and processing. New agreements may need 1 to 2 months or longer. Treat those as planning ranges and keep backup outreach active.

Define the exact remaining clinical gap

A replacement request should state specialty, remaining hours, dates, days per week, patient population, setting, and competencies that still need coverage. FNP, AGPCNP, PMHNP, and AGACNP rotations require different providers and environments. A generic NP lead may not solve the course-specific problem.

Purdue Global commonly publishes 640 clinical hours for FNP, AGPCNP, and PMHNP and 520 for AGACNP, with the exact requirement confirmed in the current handbook and enrollment term. Your program decides how completed and verified hours apply. Build the new search around the course balance the university identifies.

Use replacement sourcing to shorten the provider search

Our replacement intake begins with the approved course context and remaining need. We search for a specialty-aligned clinician, screen the setting and schedule, identify the site's agreement status, and organize the candidate information for the Purdue Global process. This prevents time from being spent on providers who cannot cover the population or dates.

The service includes physical placements and virtual preceptorship routes for approved supervised activity. A remote or blended route still needs the appropriate course, patient location, site, state, preceptor setup, and affiliation path. Students confirm the academic format and continue working with the CSM on review and compliance.

Keep the original placement file available while the replacement is reviewed. The prior agreement, onboarding contacts, provider documents, verified hour record, and site correspondence can show which steps are reusable and which must begin again. Give the replacement candidate only the course and schedule information needed for evaluation. The university and clinical organization control their own forms, approval sequence, and access to any student records.

Start a replacement review

Send a free placement review with your track, course, city, completed and remaining hours, deadline, weekly schedule, drive radius, and whether the original site can host you with another clinician. Include the agreement status if known and leave out patient details.

We will focus on the provider, site, and agreement search. The program determines how completed work applies and what approval is required next. You review the proposed match before payment and pay only when a placement is secured. Current service pricing is on cost.

Share any dates the site has already offered and identify documents that remain current. If the original organization can retain you, that option deserves an immediate operational check. If it cannot, the replacement search should start with the earliest feasible agreement path and a schedule that covers the verified remaining need.

Questions

Good to know

What should I do first when a Purdue Global preceptor drops?

Document the change, notify the CSM and course contacts, preserve hour records, and ask whether the original site can offer another qualified clinician.

Can a provider at the same site replace my preceptor?

That can preserve the site relationship and agreement when the organization approves. The new provider still needs the required review, credentials, documents, and schedule fit.

Will completed hours count?

Purdue Global determines how completed and verified work applies to the course. Compare your records with the program tracking process and request guidance promptly.

Can the replacement be virtual?

A virtual route may fit approved supervised activities when the program, course, site, state, patient location, and preceptor setup allow it. Confirm the arrangement before relying on it.
